Fruit Sando (Japanese Fruit Sandwich)
Fruit Sando (Japanese Fruit Sandwich)
Ingredients:
For the Whipped Cream:
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Sandwich:
- 8 slices of Japanese milk bread (shokupan) or any soft white bread
- Fresh fruits (e.g., strawberries, kiwi, mango, peaches, blueberries, etc.)
Instructions:
Prepare the Whipped Cream:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy whipping cream, sugar, and vanilla extract.
- Use a hand mixer or stand mixer to whip the cream until stiff peaks form. Be careful not to overwhip.
Prepare the Fruits:
- Wash and dry the fruits.
- Slice the fruits into desired shapes. For strawberries, you can halve or slice them. For kiwi and mango, peel and cut into thin slices or small chunks.
Assemble the Sandwich:
- Lay out 4 slices of bread on a clean surface.
- Spread a generous amount of whipped cream on each slice of bread.
- Arrange the sliced fruits on top of the whipped cream. Be creative with the arrangement to ensure a colorful and even distribution.
- Spread whipped cream on the remaining 4 slices of bread and place them on top of the fruit-covered slices, whipped cream side down, to form sandwiches.
Wrap and Chill:
- Carefully wrap each sandwich with plastic wrap. This helps to hold the sandwich together and makes it easier to cut.
- Place the wrapped sandwiches in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to allow the cream to set.
Cut and Serve:
- After chilling, remove the sandwiches from the refrigerator.
- Use a sharp knife to trim the crusts off the sandwiches, if desired.
- Cut each sandwich diagonally or into smaller pieces to reveal the beautiful cross-section of fruits inside.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious Fruit Sando!
These Fruit Sandos are a delightful treat, perfect for breakfast, a snack, or even as a light dessert. The combination of fresh fruits and creamy filling makes them both refreshing and satisfying.
